Post Title: Training Facilitator
Assignment: To facilitate a capacity-building session for journalists participating in the Journalism Cohort on Inclusivity and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Project Title: Collective Actions for Disabilities Rights (CADiR)

1.0 BACKGROUND
Tanzania Media Women’s Association – Zanzibar (TAMWA-ZNZ) is a national-level NGO founded in 1987, dedicated to advocating for the rights of women and children. Since 2004, TAMWA-ZNZ has operated in both Unguja and Pemba, championing social justice through strategic media engagement.
In 2025, TAMWA-ZNZ is implementing the Collective Actions for Disabilities Rights (CADiR) program in collaboration with the Norwegian Association of Disabled (NAD). The program seeks to promote and fulfill the rights of persons with disabilities in Zanzibar by improving community awareness, advancing inclusive advocacy, and strengthening the capacity of media actors to influence public discourse.
As part of this initiative, TAMWA-ZNZ has established a Journalism Cohort on Inclusivity and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The cohort includes journalists from Unguja and Pemba who are committed to producing impactful, inclusive media content. To support their professional growth and understanding, TAMWA-ZNZ seeks a Facilitator to conduct a comprehensive training session focused on disability rights, inclusive journalism, ethical storytelling, and media’s role in driving social behavior change.
2.0 OBJECTIVE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
To design and deliver a participatory and practical training session that enhances the knowledge and skills of journalists in reporting on issues affecting persons with disabilities, using a rights-based and inclusive approach.
3.0 SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
- To introduce participants to the human rights framework for persons with disabilities, including the UNCRPD and Zanzibar’s legal context.
- To build journalists’ capacity to report accurately, ethically, and sensitively on disability issues.
- To explore inclusive storytelling techniques and solutions-oriented journalism.
- To examine media’s role in addressing stigma and promoting positive behavior change.
- To support participants in developing story ideas that align with the CADiR project goals.
4.0 EXPECTED OUTPUTS
- A well-facilitated, inclusive training session (physical) lasting 3–5 days.
- Delivery of training materials (PowerPoint slides, handouts, case studies, etc.).
- Pre- and post-training assessment to measure knowledge and attitude change.
- A short facilitation report summarizing key topics covered, participant engagement, and recommendations for follow-up.
5.0 QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- University degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Human Rights, Development Studies, or related field.
- Proven experience in training journalists, particularly in areas of human rights, disability, or gender.
- Strong knowledge of disability rights frameworks (UNCRPD, Zanzibar Persons with Disabilities Act).
- Understanding of media’s role in influencing social norms and behavior.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with a participatory approach.
- Ability to prepare high-quality training content and provide post-training feedback.
6.0 TIMEFRAME
The assignment will take place over a period of 3 working days, tentatively scheduled between 5th and 15th August 2025, including preparation, delivery of training, and report writing.
