1.0: INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
Tanzania Media Women’s Association is a national Non-Governmental Organization founded in 1987 and dedicated to working towards promotion of the rights of women and children in Zanzibar. TAMWA -Zanzibar became fully fledged office in 2004 and was reregistered in 2007.
Currently, TAMWA ZNZ in collaboration with Community Forest International (CFI) and Community Forest Pemba (CFP) is implementing the Zanzibar Women’s Leadership in Adaptation Project (ZanzAdapt) the project will improve gender equality and nature-based climate adaptation capacity for vulnerable coastal communities in Unguja and Pemba Islands, Zanzibar. Project outputs primarily benefit women and their households and communities through regenerative livelihood actions that increase ecological, social, and economic resilience to climate change.
2.0: OBJECTIVE:
To promote evidence supported journalism by ensuring that professional ethics and knowledge use governing journalism profession are properly adhered to all in categories covering print, radio, television and media houses.
3.0: EXPECTED OUTPUT:
- Awards are granted to qualified journalists on women leadership in climate change adaptation.
- The awards will motivate journalists in their work through Strengthening Women’s Leadership in climate change adaptation.
- The awards will promote innovation and creativity in Journalism in Zanzibar.
- The journalist being efficiency in evidence based regarding on amplifying women voice in climate change and related information.
4.0: QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
To effectively deliver the above results, judges should possess University degree preferably Master in Mass Communication, Journalism, or Media and Public Relations and other relevant fields.
- Possess expertise in reviewing feature articles, News analysis, editorial/Commentary, radio and TV production.
- Have a good understanding of the environment, climate change and journalism landscape in Zanzibar.
- Demonstrate ability to work in and with different teams
- Possess e-Excellent communication and writing skills in English
- Self-motivated and well-managed, with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
5.0: EXPERIENCES:
Judge should have possess not less than five years’ experience of working with media stations/institutions such as print media, Radio or Television as well social media.
6.0: RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and evaluate all submitted entries across print, radio, television, and digital media in accordance with the established award criteria.
- Examine how effectively each submission amplifies women’s voices and highlights women’s leadership in climate change adaptation.
- Ensure fairness, transparency, and impartiality throughout the judging process adhering to the award criteria.
- Provide feedback and clear justification for selected winners and shortlisted candidates.
- Participate in judges’ meetings and contribute to the final selection.
- Prepare and submit a report summarizing the evaluation process, key observations, and recommendation.
6.0: EXPERIENCE:
The consultant should have no less than five years’ experience in journalism, Environment, and Public Relations, and be well-conversant with Zanzibar’s social context and dynamics.
7.0: TIMEFRAME:
The work will be undertaken for four (4) days from the 11th to the 14th March, 2026.
