Siku ya Mtoto wa Kike Duniani huadhimishwa Oktoba 11 kila mwaka. Siku hii
ilianzishwa na Umoja wa Mataifa mwaka 2012 ili kuangazia haki za wasichana na
changamoto wanazokabiliana nazo duniani kote.

EMPOWER GIRLS IN LEADERSHIP
Tanzania Media Women’s Association, Zanzibar (TAMWA ZNZ), in collaboration with
the Zanzibar Female Lawyers Association (ZAFELA), Organization of Women with
Disabilities in Zanzibar (JUWAUZA), and the Pemba Environment, Gender and
Advocacy Organization (PEGAO), will commemorate the International Day of the Girl
Child on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 8:00 AM at the ZURA Maisara Hall.
During this event, there will be a presentation of assessment reviewing leadership
opportunities for girls at the Primary, Secondary, and University levels. The
assessment aims to shed light on the need to prioritize the preparation and
empowerment of girls to take up leadership roles.
The celebration will bring together 70 participants, including the girls themselves,
civil society organizations, government institutions, and teachers. This year’s theme
is “EMPOWER THE GIRL CHILD, AMPLIFY HER VOICE,” which focuses on
promoting gender equality by providing girls with equal opportunities in leadership
from an early age, enabling them to achieve their dreams without facing barriers.
Despite ongoing efforts by various stakeholders, girls still face numerous challenges,
such as harassment, lack of equal opportunities compared to boys, and negative
cultural attitudes that deny them basic rights, including leadership roles.
The International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated annually on 11th October.
Established by the United Nations in 2012, this day highlights the rights of girls and
the challenges they face worldwide. Its goal is to inspire efforts to improve girls’

access to education, health, protection, and gender equality while urging
stakeholders to address the obstacles that hinder girls from realizing their leadership
potential.
