Mashirika ya Wanawake yakoshwa na kasi ya wanawake
kugombea Uraisi na Makamu wa Raisi

Mashirika yanayojihusisha na masuala ya wanawake na uongozi Zanzibar yanawapongeza
wanawake 13 nchini wanaotegemewa kugombea nafasi ya uraisi na Makamu wa Raisi
katika Uchaguzi Mkuu utakaofanyika mwezi Oktoba mwaka huu. Mashirika hayo
yamesema idadi hiyo ni sawa na asilimia 36 kati ya wagombea waliochukua fomu kutoka
Tume ya Uchaguzi ya Taifa (INEC) ambao jumla yao ni 36 katika ngazi ya Uraisi na
Umakamo.
Taarifa hiyo ilisema kwa upande wa nafasi ya Uraisi wa Jamhuri ya Muungano wa
Tanzania, inagombewa na wanawake watatu ambao ni pamoja na Raisi aliyepo
madarakani Dk. Samia Suluhu Hassan anaegombea kupitia Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM)
huku Bi Mwajuma Mirambo akigombea kupitia Chama cha Union for Multiparty Democracy
(UMD) na Bi Swaumu Rashid kutoka Chama cha United Democratic Party (UDP).
Aidha, katika nafasi ya Ugombea Wenza, wanawake Kumi wamejitokeza wakiwemo
Devotha Minja (CHAUMA), Amana Suleiman Mzee (TLP), Chumu Juma (AAFP), Chausiku
Khatib Mohammed (NLD), Azza Haji Suleiman (Chama cha Makini), Mashavu Alawi Haji
(UMD), Satia Mussa Bebwa (SAU), Fatma Abdulhabib Fereji (ACT-Wazalendo), Husna
Muhamed (CUF) na Dkt. Eveline Wilbard Munisi kutoka chama cha NCCR-MAGEUZI.
Tunafuraha kusema kuwa kati ya hawa wagombea tisa (9) wametokea Zanzibar; mmoja
katika nafasi ya Uraisi na nane wagombea wenza na hivyo kuweka historia ya ushiriki wa
wanawake katika nafasi za juu za siasa za ushindani.Wanawake hao ni pamoja na Dk Samia Suluhu ambaye ni Raisi wa sasa kupitia CCM na
kwa upande wa wagombea wenza ni Amana Suleiman Mzee (TLP), Chumu Juma (AAFP),
Chausiku Khatib Mohammed (NLD), Azza Haji Suleiman (Chama cha Makini), Mashavu
Alawi Haji (UMD), Satia Mussa Bebwa (SAU), Fatma Abdulhabib Fereji (ACT-Wazalendo)
na Husna Muhamed (CUF).
Mashirika hayo, ambayo ni pamoja na Jumuiya ya Wanawake Wenye Ulemavu Zanzibar
(JUWAUZA), Jumuiya ya Utetezi wa Jinsia na Mazingira Pemba (PEGAO), Jumuiya ya
Wanawake Wanasheria Zanzibar (ZAFELA) na Chama cha Waandishi wa Habari
Wanawake Tanzania Zanzibar (TAMWA ZNZ), yameona hayo ni maendeeo makubwa ya
kidemokrasia na njia sahihi kuelekea usawa wa kijinsia kwa vile kwa miaka mingi
kutokana na mifumo dume wanawake waliaminishwa kuwa hawana uwezo wala nafasi
ya kutamani nafasi za uongozi katika hatua ya juu.
Idadi hii imeweka rikodi katika historia ya nchi tokea kuanza kwa siasa za vyama vingi
mwaka 1995. Uchaguzi Mkuu wa mwaka 2020, kati ya wagombea 30 wa nafasi ya Uraisi
na Makamu wa Raisi, wanawake walikuwa 7 pekee sawa na asilimia 23.3, Kati ya hawa
watano (5) ndio waliotoka Zanzibar.
Mashirika hayo yameeleza kuwa Tanzania ina wajibu mkubwa wa kufikia usawa wa
kijinsia katika vyombo vyote vya maamuzi kama inavyoelezwa katika mikataba ya
kimataifa na kikanda ambayo imesaini ikiwemo ile ya Mkataba wa Kutokomeza Aina Zote
za Ubaguzi Dhidi ya Wanawake, 1979 (CEDAW), Umoja wa Africa, 2003 (AU) na Jumuiya
ya Maendelao ya Kusini mwa Afrika, 2008 na 2015 (SADC).
Yamesema hatua hii pia itawatia moyo zaidi watoto wa kike kuwa wana uwezo wa kuwa
na ndoto za kimaendeleo na kuyafikia bila ya kuwa na vikwazo vyovyote.
Mashirika hayo yanapenda kutumia fursa hii kuvipongeza vyama vyote vya siasa
vilivyoweka wagombea wanawake katika ngazi hizo za Uraisi na Ugombea mwenza na
hivyo kuonesha kutambua na kuthamini mchango wa wanawake katika demokrasia na
maendeleo kwa jumla.Mashirika hayo pia yamewataka wadau wote wa uchaguzi kuhakikisha mazingira ya
kisiasa yanabaki salama, yenye heshima na usawa kwa wagombea wote bila kujali jinsia
wala vyama ili kuhakikisha kuwa wanawake wanakuwa ni washirika sawa katika
maendeleo.

Activists Inspired by the Momentum of Women Contesting for the
Presidency and Vice Presidency

Organizations working on women and leadership in Zanzibar commend the 13 women in
the country who are expected to contest for the positions of President and Vice President
in the upcoming General Election scheduled for October this year. The organizations
noted that this figure represents 36% of the 36 candidates who collected nomination
forms from the National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the presidential and vice-
presidential positions.
The information states that, three women are contesting for the Presidency of the United
Republic of Tanzania, including the incumbent President, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, who
is running on the Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) ticket, Ms. Mwajuma Mirambo from the
Union for Multiparty Democracy (UMD) and Ms. Swaumu Rashid from the United
Democratic Party (UDP).
In addition, 10 women have declared their candidacy for the Vice Presidency including
Devotha Minja (CHAUMA), Amana Suleiman Mzee (TLP), Chumu Juma (AAFP), ChausikuKhatib Mohammed (NLD), Azza Haji Suleiman (Chama cha Makini), Mashavu Alawi Haji
(UMD), Satia Mussa Bebwa (SAU), Fatma Abdulhabib Fereji (ACT-Wazalendo), Husna
Muhamed (CUF) and Dr. Eveline Wilbard Munisi (NCCR-Mageuzi).
The organizations expressed pleasure that out of the list, nine (9) candidates came from
Zanzibar, eight running mates and one presidential candidate, marking a historic
milestone in women’s participation in high-level competitive politics. They include Dr
Samia Suluhu the incumbent President through CCM and for the running mates are ;
Amana Suleiman Mzee (TLP), Chumu Juma (AAFP), Chausiku Khatib Mohammed (NLD),
Azza Haji Suleiman (Chama cha Makini), Mashavu Alawi Haji (UMD), Satia Mussa Bebwa
(SAU), Fatma Abdulhabib Fereji (ACT-Wazalendo) and Husna Muhamed (CUF).
The organizations namely the Zanzibar Association of Women with Disabilities
(JUWAUZA), the Pemba Gender and Environment Advocacy Organization (PEGAO), the
Zanzibar Female Lawyers Association (ZAFELA), and the Tanzania Media Women’s
Association, Zanzibar (TAMWA ZNZ) described this as a significant milestone in
democratic progress and a clear path toward gender equality saying for many years, due
to patriarchal systems, women were made to believe they had neither the ability nor the
right to aspire to such high level politics.
This achievement sets a new record in the history of the country since the reintroduction
of multiparty politics in 1995. In the 2020 General Election, out of 30 presidential and
vice-presidential candidates, only seven (23.3%) were women, five of whom were from
Zanzibar.
The organizations emphasized that Tanzania has a major responsibility to achieve gender
equality in all decision-making bodies, as stipulated in international and regional treaties
it has ratified, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination
Against Women (CEDAW, 1979), the African Union (AU) Protocol on Women’s Rights
(2003), and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) gender protocols of
2008 and 2015.They further stated that this development will inspire young girls to believe in their ability
to dream big and achieve their goals without barriers.
These organizations would like to take this opportunity to commend all political parties
that nominated women candidates for the positions of President and Vice President,
thereby demonstrating recognition and appreciation of women’s contribution to
democracy and development at large.
The organizations also called upon all election stakeholders to ensure that the political
environment remains safe, respectful, and inclusive for all candidates, regardless of
gender or political affiliation, in order to guarantee that women are recognized as equal
partners in elections and in the overall development of the nation across all sectors.
