Outstanding Media Achievements by Young Media Fellows
Young Media Fellows (YMFs) have become the backbone of women leadership stories during the election time who published 102 stories from ….to …..
YMF composed of 15 girls and five (5) boys published seven newspaper articles, twenty radio programs, sixty-eight social media stories, and three television pieces published on YouTube. The fellows also documented 45 profiles of women leaders and produced 48articles and programs amplifying voice of women in the male dominated area of the political discourse.

In collaboration with its partner; National Endowment for Democracy (NED) continued to strengthen the capacity of young journalists by equipping them with essential skills to report on gender, leadership, and governance issues with accuracy and depth.
Notwithstanding these development, YMFs identified more than 13 key issues affecting women’s leadership in Zanzibar. These included financial barriers facing women aspirants, the need for leadership and management curriculum in schools, online harassment targeting women, and limited infrastructure for persons with disabilities, underreported corruption, ongoing calls for 50/50 gender equality, intimidation and threats against women candidates, particularly within opposition parties.

Through the dedication of the Young Media Fellows, TAMWA Zanzibar is helping build a more gender-responsive media landscape that amplifies women’s voices, promotes accountability, and supports inclusive decision-making across the country.
