TAMWA is a national level Non-Governmental Organization known as Tanzania Media Women’s Association formed in 1987. TAMWA Zanzibar became fully self-governing and operational in both Isles of Unguja and Pemba since 2004. In January 2007, it attained its own separate registration.

1.0 INTRODUCTION:

Tanzania Media Women’s Association (TAMWA) was established in 1987. TAMWA ZNZ became fully self-governing and operational in both Isles of Unguja and Pemba in 2004. TAMWA’s mission is to advocate for women’s and children’s rights for cultural, policy, and legal changes/ transformations in society through the use of media.

In 2023, TAMWA ZNZ partnered with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to implement Sports and Development project intending to promote gender equality in sports. It is from this background that TAMWA-ZNZ calls for applications from Journalists both in Unguja and Pemba to participate in Journalism Cohort on Gender and Sports fostering analytical and impact stories on Gender and Sports within the media space, both mainstream and online. The Cohort will have the benefit of participating in physical training and be an integral part of the project activities regularly cover events of the project and its nuisances.

1.1 ELIGIBILITY FOR THE COHORT

  • A journalist should be employed or self-employed.
  • A journalist working in Zanzibar for more than two years from a broad base of media houses; mainstream, local or social media.
  • Having an ability to work/ write for both mainstream media and social media is an added advantage.
  • A journalist who is interested in covering stories across social issues especially on gender, GBV and sports issues.
  • An active journalist who has covered gender/ sports-related stories.
  • A journalist with a high degree of integrity and ethical consideration.
  • Have distinguished a remarkable level of creativity and independence in the area of gender, sports and journalism.
  • Willingness to commit to in-house training, field activities, and follow-up trainings.  
  • Readiness to work with a cross section of partners and actors in the field.
  • All applicants are requested to indicate their geographical locations besides their working stations.
  • Female and journalists with disabilities from both Unguja and Pemba are encouraged to apply.

2.1: APPLICATION PROCEDURE

The potential Journalists must submit an application letter accompanied by the following-

STEP 1

At least 2 sample of stories published/aired on Gender equality, Sports and GBV. (Link is accepted).

STEP 2

Once shortlisted, applicants will be contacted for an interview either physically or online which will lead to the final decision of the application.

3.0 SUBMISSION

Applications should be submitted ONLINE through the link HERE or physically at TAMWA, Zanzibar office or through email provided in the address below by 29th APRIL, 2024.
