TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR MENTORING AND COACHING THE YOUNG MEDIA FELLOWS ON WRITING ANALYTICAL AND IMPACT BASED STORIES RELATED TO WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP, GENDER EQUALITY AND WOMENS SOCIO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

BACKGROUND
Tanzania Media Women’s Association is a national Non-Governmental Organization founded in 1987 and dedicated to working towards promotion of the rights of women and children in Zanzibar. TAMWA -Zanzibar became fully fledged office in 2004 and was reregistered in 2007.
Currently, TAMWA-ZNZ is implementing the project TUNAWEZA PAMOJA: Ending violence against women and girls (EVAWG). The aim of this project is to reduce prevalence and impact of VAWG through community-based and systemic interventions. The call targets primarily to engage a qualified consultant (mentor/facilitator) to design and deliver a two-day training in Unguja and a two-day training in Pemba, and provide technical mentorship support to journalists.
1.0 OBJECTIVE

TAMWA ZNZ intend to hire mentors who are media professionals for the purpose of connecting and strengthen journalists’ capacity to produce effective, ethical, and analytical media coverage on VAWG.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
• To strengthen journalists’ skills in analytical and investigative reporting on VAWG
• To promote ethical, survivor-centered, and context-sensitive storytelling
• To support the development and production of impactful media content
• To enhance media engagement in influencing policy and social change
EXPECTED OUTPUT
At the end of the mentorship program:
• 40 journalists will be able to write constructive stories/ articles/ program.
Deliver high-quality training on GBV reporting.
• Provide mentorship support for media outputs.
• Journalists can communicate and Promote ethical and survivor-cantered reporting.
• Journalists can be able developing strong story ideas
2.0 RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE MENTOR
Mentor will specifically perform the following tasks;
A. Training Facilitation: Design and deliver specialized training for 40 journalists (20 in Unguja and 20 in Pemba) on-
• Analytical and investigative journalism on VAWG
• Context-based GBV issues affecting farmers (seaweed, sea cucumber, cassava, and banana sectors)
• Child marriage, human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and online harassment
• Ethical and survivor-centered reporting practices
B. Mentorship and Technical Support
• Provide ongoing mentorship to participating journalists over a period of two months
• Guide participants in developing strong, evidence-based story ideas
• Review and provide feedback on media content produced
C. Media Output Support
• Support the production of:
• At least 20 media features
• 20 social media stories
• 10 radio/TV programs
• Minimum 10 additional digital/social media contents, including:
• Survivor-led stories
• Community dialogue programs
• Legal awareness content broadcast through community media
• GBV-related issues
D. Reporting and Documentation
• Develop and submit training materials and agenda
• Prepare a comprehensive training report
• Submit a final mentorship and assignment report
5.0 . QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

• University degree (at least Master’s level) in Mass Communication, Gender and Community Development, Policy Analysis, leadership and management or equivalent. 
• Expertise in journalism GBV and related fields.  
• Have good understanding of journalism landscape in Zanzibar
• Knowledge of and familiarity with TAMWA’s programming and processes.
• Ability to work with teams.
• Excellent communications and writing skills in English.
• Good presentation skills. 

6.0 EXPERIENCE 

Mentor should have not less than five years of experience mentorship and Coaching programs, Management, Organization Development, Gender issues as well conversant with Zanzibar social context and its dynamics. Multidiscipline experience within development organizations and NGOs is highly desirous.

7.0 TIMEFRAME 

The program is required to be carried out for ten 10 days consequently, this will include online and physical sessions starting from 23th April, 2026 to 3rd May, 2026 in Unguja. And 12 May 2026 to 22nd May 2026.
