- BACKGROUND
Tanzania Media Women’s Association – Zanzibar (TAMWA ZNZ) is a national Non-Governmental Organization established in 1987 and fully operational in Zanzibar since 2004. TAMWA ZNZ works to promote gender equality, human rights, women’s leadership, and social inclusion through the use of media and communication for development.
Currently, TAMWA-ZNZ is implementing the Collective Actions for Disability Rights (CADiR) Program in collaboration with the Norwegian Association of Disabled (NAD). The program seeks to promote and protect the rights of persons with disabilities through advocacy, awareness raising, and strengthening of community-based initiatives.
In Zanzibar, TAMWA-ZNZ is working alongside other implementing partners including SHIJUWAZA, MECP-Z, ZAFAYCO, Mnazi Mmoja Hospital and ZANAB. On the mainland, the program is being implemented with SHIVYAWATA, CHAVITA and Sense International. The program is supported by Norwegian partners, with NAD Zanzibar serving as the country coordinator, ensuring alignment, accountability, and knowledge sharing across all implementing organizations.
CADiR recognizes the importance of inclusive participation and representation of marginalized groups. Therefore, TAMWA ZNZ in collaboration with partners, intends to strengthen the capacity of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) on advocacy and coalition building. The training aims to enhance the ability of OPDs to effectively engage with policymakers, stakeholders, the media and communities in advocating for disability rights and inclusive development.
To support this initiative, TAMWA ZNZ seeks to engage a qualified Consultant/Facilitator to develop comprehensive training modules and facilitate the training sessions for OPDs.
2.0 OBJECTIVE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The main objective of this assignment is to develop user-friendly and participatory training materials on advocacy and coalition building for OPDs and facilitate the training sessions effectively.
Specifically, the consultant will:
- Develop a comprehensive Participant Manual on advocacy and coalition building.
- Develop a Facilitator’s Guide with detailed session plans and methodologies.
- Prepare PowerPoint presentations (PPTs) for all training sessions.
- Facilitate participatory training sessions for OPDs.
- Strengthen the capacity of OPDs to engage in evidence-based advocacy and coalition building initiatives.
3.0 SCOPE OF WORK
The Consultant/Facilitator will undertake the following tasks:
- Review relevant project documents and existing materials related to disability inclusion, advocacy, and coalition building.
- Conduct consultations with TAMWA ZNZ and relevant stakeholders where necessary.
- Develop training modules covering key areas including:
- Introduction to Advocacy
- Advocacy Strategies and Approaches
- Policy Engagement and Influencing
- Coalition and Network Building
- Stakeholder Mapping and Engagement
- Communication and Media Engagement for Advocacy
- Strategic Campaign Planning
- Monitoring and Documentation of Advocacy Initiatives
- Develop a Participant Manual using simple and accessible language.
- Prepare a detailed Facilitator Guide with participatory methodologies, exercises, and discussion guides.
- Prepare PowerPoint presentations aligned with the training content.
- Facilitate the training sessions using participatory approaches.
- Incorporate feedback from TAMWA ZNZ into the final training materials.
- Submit final editable and printable versions of all materials.
4.0 EXPECTED DELIVERABLES
At the end of the assignment, the consultant is expected to submit:
- Draft Participant Manual on Advocacy and Coalition Building for OPDs.
- Draft Facilitator Guide.
- Training PowerPoint presentations.
- Final revised training materials incorporating feedback from TAMWA ZNZ.
- Training facilitation report with key observations and recommendations.
5.0 QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The consultant/facilitator should possess the following qualifications:
- At least a bachelor’s degree in mass communication, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related field.
- Experience in developing training manuals and facilitating capacity-building trainings.
- Good understanding of disability rights and the OPDs’ landscape in Tanzania.
- Strong facilitation, communication and report-writing skills in English and Kiswahili.
- Experience working with CSOs and development partners.
6.0 EXPERIENCE
The consultant should have at least five (5) years of relevant professional experience in advocacy, training facilitation, and development of training materials, preferably in the disability inclusion.
Experience working with OPDs and conducting participatory trainings will be an added advantage.
7.0 DURATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The assignment is expected to be conducted within 15 days from the date of signing the contract.
8.0 REPORTING
The Consultant/Facilitator will report directly to TAMWA ZNZ through the designated Project Coordinator.
