Groups in Unguja and Pemba
Project Title: CADiR – Collective Action for Disability Rights.
Location: Zanzibar
Date: 2nd November 2026

1.0: BACKGROUND
Tanzania Media Women’s Association – Zanzibar (TAMWA-ZNZ) is a national NonGovernmental Organization established in 1987 and fully operational in Zanzibar since
2004. TAMWA-ZNZ works to promote gender equality, human rights, women’s leadership,
and social inclusion through the use of media and communication for development.
Currently, TAMWA-ZNZ is implementing the Collective Action for Disability Rights (CADiR)
Program in collaboration with the Norwegian Association of Disabled (NAD). The program
seeks to promote and protect the rights of persons with disabilities through advocacy,
awareness raising, and strengthening of community-based initiatives.
As part of the Economic Empowerment Program (EEP), TAMWA-ZNZ supports KIJALUBA
iSAVE groups to strengthen their savings, develop income-generating activities (IGAs),
improve business and entrepreneurship skills, and increase their participation in economic
opportunities.
Through the implementation of EEP, several KIJALUBA iSAVE groups have established or
strengthened different income-generating activities, including poultry keeping,
agriculture, food processing, cosmetics production, tailoring, handcrafts, and other smallscale businesses. Despite these efforts, groups need additional knowledge and practical
skills to effectively market their products, attract customers, expand their market reach,
and increase sales.
Recognizing the importance of marketing in sustaining and growing small businesses,
TAMWA-ZNZ intends to engage a qualified and experienced trainer to conduct a threeday practical training on basic marketing, packaging and branding, and digital and online
marketing in Unguja and Pemba.
The training will target 60 participants, comprising 30 participants from Unguja and 30
from Pemba. Each location will have two representatives from 15 selected KIJALUBA
iSAVE groups that have demonstrated good progress in implementing their IGAs.
The training will equip participants with practical marketing skills, including how to
introduce their businesses and products to customers, engage potential customers,
promote products, improve product packaging and branding, and use social media and
mobile-based tools to reach wider markets and increase sales.
The training will emphasize practical learning to ensure that participants can apply the
acquired knowledge and skills to promote their respective group businesses and
strengthen the sustainability of their income-generating activities.
